Difference Between Steel & Poly Water Tanks
Steel (Galvanised Water Tanks)
Poly Water Tanks
There are different grades of stainless steel water tanks. Some provide much greater resistance against different environmental areas such as salty air, however in the regions we service this has not been something we have encountered. Nonetheless, the strength and durability of stainless steel makes it a desirable option with a slightly higher price tag than poly tanks. Due to its cost it is most often purchased from customers where both the strength of steel and corrosion resistance are required.
Poly rainwater tanks made in Australia today are made to withstand the various environmental elements such as the harsh sun in summer and the very low winter temperatures, and are safe to use for drinking water.
Poly tanks are fabricated through a rotomoulding process where plastic resin is heated up, rotationally spun inside a cast and then cooled and allowed to set.
Poly tanks that are UV-stabilised and plastic also obviously does not rust. So you have less to worry about with a poly tank.
